Stops - Stop Location and the Geofence

Stop Location

Stop Location is determined by the PIN Drop.

The address entered is used to approximately locate the Stop location on the map.

All Stops should be reviewed on the Map to ensure the Location is accurate - i.e. on the roadside (or bus stop icon), NOT on the centre of an address location.

When the PIN is moved the Address may change to the Google maps designation for the new Pin location. This can't be changed without causing Pin relocation

Consider if you will need to create both AM and PM Stops (precisely located) for the same general stop location. It is recommended to have precisely located stops in the following circumstances:

  • When it isn't obvious to parents which direction the bus will be travelling and the exact location (which side of the road) to drop/pick up their children needs to be communicated on the route maps.
  • When you are using the Driver QR code to generate navigation directions. Having stops in the centre of a the road may cause navigation to behave unpredictably - advising u-turns or block circuits unnecessarily.

Increase the Geofence Size to take in a larger area. For Example when the one Stop is being used for both AM and PM stop locations

Geofence

  • The defined area around the Stop location that is deemed acceptable for the bus to stop within
  • Specified in metres (edge length)
  • Defaults to 75m, but can be changed by any RollCall admin. It is recommended to choose a value between 50-200 and only go above 200m for the school campus or exceptional circumstances.
  • Determines whether or not the Bus visited each stop on the route (must be stationary inside the geofence for at least 6 seconds).
  • Used to record Bus In and Out times for each stop
  • Determines whether or not students generate a Stop exception - Wrong Stop or Off-Stop
  • Determines the fare charge based on the fare zone setting for each stop.

Key Points

Entering and maintaining accuracy of Stop locations and Geofence size will ensure:

  • parents and drivers know where the bus is supposed to stop
  • the school is informed if students are boarding the bus at other locations
  • the correct fare is charged
  • adherence to route timetables can be monitored
  • route maintenance and optimisation can be completed with confidence
