What is Bus Guardian?

Bus Guardian is a system that helps to ensure that no child has been left on the bus. It is a system that adds an additional layer of School Bus student safety, ensuring Schools and Bus Companies meet their duty of care requirements.

How Bus Guardian works

Bus Guardian enforces the bus driver (or other supervisors) to walk to the back of the bus and tap onto a RollCall control board positioned there. This ensures they check the Bus for any students still onboard.

All this information can be tracked centrally on a dashboard and reports to ensure that all drivers have checked their bus before leaving. This makes it virtually impossible for a bus driver to finish their run without walking the bus and checking for students.

ADDING Bus Guardian to your RollCall system

There is no additional charge for Bus Guardian other than having the Bus Guardian boards for your buses, which may have been included with your devices or can be purchased from our Marketplace using the following Link.

When you are ready to start using Bus Guardian, just send a request to [email protected] or ask a School Admin user to set it up in RollCall system using the following steps.

STEP ONE - Add a Non-student traveller called "Bus Check"

Use the code printed on the Bus Guardian Board and assign to Role = Bus Check.

  1. Go to SETTINGS | NON STUDENT TRAVELLER
  2. Select "+ADD" button
  3. Enter the details and Save

NOTE.     The token codes on the boards are usually the same, but if you have multiple different code tokens they will need an entry for each code, so they are all recognised as Bus Checks

STEP TWO - Turn on Bus Check

Turn on for each of the Event Groups that are required to complete the Bus Guardian check

  1. Go to SETTINGS | EVENT GROUPS
  2. Add a Check to the Bus check column as applicable

VIEWING the Bus Guardian Checks
The Bus guardian icon will now appear on the transport screen and operational dashboard and your drivers will be prompted to complete the check after completing their run and prior to logging out.

The ICON is Orange until the check has completed, after which it turns Green to indicate the check has been done

REPORTING the Bus Guardian Checks
The Bus Check Report provides detail of the Date and time the Bus Guardian check was completed

  1. Go to REPORTS menu
  2. Select 'Bus Check' report
  3. Use Filters as required.

IMPORTANT

NOTE.     Drivers aren't prompted to log out of their route after the check is complete and will need to ensure that they select LOGOUT from the RollCall device menu to end their Route operations. Failing to logout of a Route can cause issues with future route operations.
